It always amazes me how seemingly intelligent people can let the, "powers that be", do most of the thinking for them. Sure, most people think they have independent thought, but all truth be known...it is more like the animals in a circus; perform and obey or you get beat and go hungry. So we try to act strong within the extremely narrow margin of thought we have been "ALLOWED" to have. But beyond that, we are milquetoast.
A prime example of this exists in the coffee shop. There must be over a thousand coffee shops in every town block, and each and every one is full of people....daily. Discussions range widely, but it always seems we are trying to clear the air somehow. We talk about things in the coffee shop environment that we think are somehow more important and carry a greater impact than discussions outside of the shop. In fact, which one of us right now wouldn't get excited about an invitation for coffee this afternoon? Get the drift.....
The problem is, once we leave the "safety" of the coffee shop and re-enter the tough world outside, we go right back to being scared, worried, anxious and become once again exclusively concerned about taking care of numero uno. Basically, when we enter a coffee shop, we take off the choker chain, and then re don it once we leave. Tough gang we all are, huh?
Now don't get me wrong, I am not ripping on the coffee shop per se, I go once in a while. Rather, its the attitude of people that exists there.....and not out in the real world. There is a very noticeable difference between the "meeting" and the "action" after the meeting. As long as we don't actually have to confront the "issues discussed", we are going to be okay until our next coffee. In other words, until we re-enter safe territory again.
So how do you think for yourself? Its Easy........deeply research and study the truth of a matter "ON YOUR OWN"! Want truth about God.....read and study the Bible daily, He makes things Very Clear. Want to know how the Law REALLY works.....go to the Law Library in your town. Whatever it is, you MUST be willing to spend time, on your own, studying all of the angles. Then and only then will you begin to be able to think for yourself with any authority. Sitting around listening to others without checking things out, is a sure recipe for disaster. Once you grow in knowledge and wisdom though, it becomes much harder for the wool to be pulled over your eyes. All of a sudden, your not so easy to push around. The world and its powers will surely hate you then. So what!
Even the "accepted" experts around us every day need to be held in check. Lawyers, Doctors, Professors, Ministers, Government etc. all need a good dose of confronting a competent and intelligent body public. Like they say in the medical community, "Always Get A Second Opinion". You might be surprised at what would have become of the first advice you received had you pursued it? Imagine how this would have changed the course of human history had Eve consulted God before taken Satan's lovely advice.
Think hard about that one. And then go have coffee.....
