I might be a little forthright, but this DVD, Rebellion of Thought hit me pretty hard. For many years I have wondered why people of faith, biblical Christ centered faith, (as I count myself) have really been missing the point....for the most part. Of course, mention something like I just did and all hades will soon break loose. People have an insatiable need to be "right", and just the thought that we are not actually "living out" the things we preach will strike many outside of our belief as unauthentic. I couldn't blame them. Now enter the documentary Rebellion of Thought.
Produced, edited and performed by The Brothers Williamson of Paladin Pictures, comes what I believe is an amazing job of telling it like it actually is. In this film, the brothers focus on the question that haunts most professing believers today, "Is the Church and its followers..broken?" What are we doing when we go to Church week after week? What positives are coming from that activity alone? Now don't get me wrong, neither myself nor the makers of this film are encouraging others not to attend church. No, No. Rather, I believe the focus has always been and should always be derived from Matthew 22:35 which reads, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself". What I believe Christ was saying in the context of this scripture, was something I know that I had yearned for quite deeply. AUTHENTICITY!! Be yourself. Stop playing Churchianity, as they say on the DVD.
Maybe just being a genuine and authentic "neighbor" to the people you meet in everyday life. Maybe stepping back a little and doing less, yet doing less with more passion and conviction than you have been doing. Be ready to lend a helping hand to someone that may not have the same beliefs as Christians do. Helping with a pure heart (even if it means missing Church on Sunday, or bible study on Wednesday) might genuinely show those around you that you do indeed care. The world around us is gnashing its teeth in an attempt to say, "Look at those who believe. How phony and disingenuous they seem to be". Its time for a sincere change.
Of course I could go on and on about the Post Modernism discussions and deep questions they pose to people off the street in the film, but you'll just have to check it out for yourself. You will find out, if you pay extra close attention, that this film will truly enlighten you as well as clear up that nagging in your gut that I once had. That feeling that won't ever go away unless YOU change.
Maybe its time for you? Time to open up to the possibilities of a New Life, lived without the baggage of a phony walk. Just maybe its time for a Rebellion of Thought?
